LDC Team Pay Courtesy Call On DCJ

On Monday February 12,2024, a team from the Law Development Centre (LDC) paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Richard Buteera at the Court of Appeal in Kampala.

The purpose of the visit was to brief him on the upcoming 51st LDC Graduation ceremony scheduled for 19th April 2024.

The team included Mr. Sylvester Wambuga (LDC Assistant Director-Kampala Campus), Ms. Annette Karungi Mutabingwa (Head Bar Course), Mr. Precious Ngabirano (Head Law and Continuing Legal Education), and Mr. Macky Robert (Coordinator LDC Alumni).

Mr. Wambuga updated the DCJ on LDC's programmes and innovations, including the establishment of a fourth campus in Mbale City. 

He also informed the Deputy Chief Justice that LDC has incorporated in its curriculum a course unit on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in line with the Judiciary Transformation Agenda.

The Deputy Chief Justice emphasized the importance of maintaining high-quality lawyers from LDC to ensure effective justice delivery. 

He commended the inclusion of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) education on the LDC curriculum, particularly citing the success of plea bargains in Criminal Justice.

Stressing the shortage of trained arbitrators, the Deputy Chief Justice highlighted the necessity of competent arbitrators to settle disputes beyond judicial adjudication.

He also emphasized the role of competent arbitrators in settling disputes, acknowledging that people often need assistance in resolving conflicts.

Ms Mutabingwa affirmed LDC's commitment to providing necessary resources for ADR education, identifying skilled practitioners, and prioritizing continuous training in ADR, depending on the availability of funds.
